PURPOSE: To provide a car obstacle detector device which can detect the obstacles to the forward extreme of a travelling lane when the car is turning and also can prevent the buildings, etc., existing inside the turning rang from being erroneously recognized as obstacles on the travelling lane.
CONSTITUTION: On the premise that the detection area of a radar is increased toward the inside of a turning range, the extension of the detection area is inhibited in the case of a blind curve or the width of extension is made smaller compared with the case of an open curve. Meanwhile the obstacles are detected by only the radar set outside a turning line of a in its turning state when a pair of radars 2L and 2R on the right/left side are provided. The radars are defined as horizontally moving type and are positioned at the outside edge of the turning line in a turning state of the car.
