PURPOSE: To a rotation isomer and useful as a clathrate host for separating agents or metal catching agents capable of carrying out intake of a metal ion in a polar solvent by reacting a specific diol compound with a diisocyanate compound in the presence of a basic compound.
CONSTITUTION: This compound of formula I [X is N or CH; R1 is methylene or ethylene; R2 and R3 each is H or a 1-4C alkyl] is obtained by subjecting (A) a diol compound of formula II (e.g. m-xylylenediol.to cyclic addition reaction with (B) a diisocyanate compound of formula III (e.g. m-xylylene diisocyanate) in the presence of (C) a basic compound (e.g. imidazole). Furthermore, the reaction is preferably carried out in a solvent such as benzene after the component A and B are diluted with the solvent so that total amount of these component become ≤1×10-1mol/l.
