Abstract:

To provide a carbon nanotube structural body, a producing method therefor, and a field emission element and a display unit obtained by applying the same.

A carbon nanotube is produced by the method that a primary carbon nanotube is grown on a substrate where a catalytic substance layer is formed and that, after the primary growing, a secondary carbon nanotube is grown on the surface of the primary carbon nanotube utilizing the catalytic substance existing on the surface of the grown primary carbon nanotube. The secondary carbon nanotube grown at the side face of the primary carbon nanotube and having a fine diameter emits an electron at a low voltage. High electron emitting current is obtained by the increase of electron emitting sources which are the secondary carbon nanotubes having fine diameters, and then a uniform field emission characteristic is obtained by the diameter of the primary carbon nanotube formed with a uniform distribution.
