An upper limit sensor light emitting part 1g is positioned inside the upper face of the card storage device 1. Detection light beam is thereby output from the presence sensor light emitting part 1e and the upper limit sensor light emitting part 1g in a direction approximately parallel to a plane having both an edge in the horizontal direction of the cards 10 stored in a card holding portion 1a and a normal to the bottom face and in a direction diagonally intersecting the stacking direction of the stored cards 10. The detection light beam enables extraction of information recorded on the cards 10.
