Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device capable of frequently determining the deterioration of a catalyst with high accuracy.
SOLUTION: This catalyst deterioration determining device calculates an maximum oxygen occlusion of a first catalyst 53 in an exhaust pipe 52, and calculates a temperature of the catalyst during calculation period (catalyst temperature during calculation period). A characteristic value of the first catalyst at that time is determined on the basis of the maximum oxygen occlusion obtained when the catalyst temperature during calculation period exists in a predetermined temperature area (learning temperature area). Further the calculated maximum oxygen occlusion is corrected (standardized) to the maximum oxygen occlusion which may be obtained in a case when the catalyst temperature during calculation is the specific temperature (standardized temperature), on the basis of the catalyst temperature during calculation in calculating the maximum oxygen occlusion, and the characteristic value, in the case when the maximum oxygen occlusion is calculated when the catalyst temperature during calculation period exists in a temperature area (excluding the learning temperature area), to determine the deterioration of the catalyst on the basis of a result of comparison of the maximum oxygen occlusion after standardization and the catalyst deterioration determination value.
