PURPOSE: To provide a modified natural clinoptilolite used for a catalyst in a process reacting ethene with ammonia to be converted into ethylamine, and to provide a process for reacting ethene with ammonia by using the catalyst.
CONSTITUTION: The modified clinoptilolite is suspended in 2-mole hydrochloric acid soln. under stirring condition at 74°C for 8 hours, then collected by filtration. The collected clinoptilolite is washed with deionized water, dryed at 120°C for 4 hours, then fired at 500°C for 4 hours to obtain modified clinoptilolite. Using the modified clinoptilolite as catalyst, in a case of reacting ethene with ammonia (NH3/C2H4=4:1) under 50 atm., the conversion of ethene is 50% and the ratio of monoethylamine to diethylamine is more than 20:1.
