Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a catalyst suitable for the production of an unsaturated alcohol and a method for efficiently producing the unsaturated alcohol from diol.
SOLUTION: The unsaturated alcohol is produced by dehydration of only one hydroxy group of the diol by using cerium oxide or a cerium oxide-metal oxide compound as a catalyst. For example, allylalcohol is produced from 1,3-propanediol, and crotyl alcohol and 3-hydroxy-1-butene are produced from 1,3-butanediol.
