Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a catalyst for purifying internal combustion engine exhaust gas which has especially quick response to NOx purification by making the catalyst have a double layer structure comprising a catalyst layer containing rhodium, palladium, a cerium compound, and refractory inorganic oxides as catalytic components together with a cerium compound and a catalyst layer containing palladium.
SOLUTION: At least two layers comprising a catalyst layer containing rhodium, palladium, a cerium compound, and refractory inorganic oxides as catalytic components and containing the cerium compound on the three dimensional refractory structure body and a catalyst layer containing palladium are formed to give this double-layered catalyst. As the cerium compound, oxides are preferable and the content of the compound is 1-100g, preferably 1-80g, per 1l of the catalyst. The content of palladium is 0.1-20g, preferably 0.1-15g, per 1l of the catalyst. Moreover, it is preferably that rhodium be contained in the catalyst layer containing the cerium compound and that rhodium be not practically contained in the catalyst layer containing rhodium.
