Abstract:

To obtain a catalyst system for synthesizing a rubbery polymer such as a polybutadiene rubber, a styrene-butadiene rubber, an isoprene-butadiene rubber or a styrene-isoprene-butadiene rubber, etc., which is amine functionalized and has a high trans microstructure.

The catalyst system comprises (a) an organolithium amine compound, (b) a group IIa metal salt of an amino glycol or a glycol ether, (c) an organoaluminum compound and optionally (d) an amine compound. The amine functionalized rubbery polymer is used for a rubber for a tire tread and the rubbery polymer provides a desirable wear resistance without substantially sacrificing one or more performance characteristics such as traction properties.
