To eliminate overheating of the tissue of a target site and the blood in the adjacent to the target site and prevent the coagulum from being formed by arranging the inside in the adjacent to a fluid passage so that a cooling fluid flowing in a fluid path cools extraction electrodes via the inside of the extraction electrodes.
Appropriate energy is applied to extraction electrodes such as belt electrodes 18 so as to extract the tissue of a target site. During its extracting, coolant, normally salt solution 32 passes through a port 21 and a catheter body 6 so as to flow into the inside 30 of a tip part, 10 and the salt solution 32 is brought in direct contact with the inner surfaces 28 of the extraction electrodes 18 so as to cool the extraction electrodes 18. This constitution can reduce the overheating in the adjacent to the extraction electrodes 18 and reduce the occurrence of the undesirable results such as excessive coagulation of the blood and unexpected destruction of the sound tissue in the adjacent to the target tissue.
