Title:
CATHODE HAVING LOW HYDROGEN OVERVOLTAGE AND PREPARATION THEREOF
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JPS58133387
Kind Code:
A
Abstract:
PURPOSE:To obtain the cathode having high mechanical strength which enables to sufficiently exhibit the electrolytic activity of platinum-group metal and which can be used over a long time, by electrolytically codepositing electroconductive particles together with platinum-group nobel metal, silver-based metal or these oxide onto the core body of the electrode. CONSTITUTION:The core body 1 of an electrode is dipped in the plating solution in which electroconductive particles 3 are uniformly dispersed together with metal selected from platinum-group nobel metals such as Pt and Pd and silver, or these alloy or oxide 4, to electrolytically codeposit those components. In the electrode obtained in this way, the particles 3 or the particles of the component 4 mainly bonded to the plating metal present inside a plating metal layer 2 are brought into sufficient contact with an electrolytic solution by gaps formed between the particles 3 and/or porous parts inside the particles 3 stuck and contained in the plating layer 2. As a result, the particles of the component 4 remarkably contrubite to electrolyzing reaction so that the cathode which can substantially reduce hydrogen overvoltage is obtained.
