Abstract:

To provide an electronic commerce card authorization and transaction process system.

A central transaction server 280 in an electronic commerce card authorization system 200 acts as an intermediary for all communications with a control server 225 by use of an electronic commerce card association which manages and monitor the authentication system 200 used for authentication. If any portion of the authentication system 200 fails, the central transaction server 280 compensates by providing appropriate responses to other portions of the system, and translates all incoming traffics into a format compatible with a designated recipient, enabling portions of the system to be upgraded without breaking the compatibility with the non-upgraded portions. The centralized transaction server also performs the integration of formally separate portions of the authentication system 200 within a single unit. A directory and an authentication history server 235 are integrated into the central transaction server 280, and the central transaction server initiates charges to the electronic commerce card, bypassing a card acquirer 244.
