Abstract:
PURPOSE: To obtain a composite membrane physically and chemically stable and excellent in separation characteristics by forming a polymeric skin layer having separation capacity to the surface of a porous ceramic base membrane having separation function itself.
CONSTITUTION: A dilute solution of m-phenylenediamine is applied to the surface of an ultrafiltration membrane formed using alumina or porous glass with a nominal cut-off mol.wt. of about 1000-100000 as a membrane material and, subsequently, a dilute solution of aromatic polyfunctional acid chloride is brought into contact with the coated membrane to form a skin layer composed of aromatic polyamide by interfacial polycondensation reaction.
