Abstract:

To provide a cermet based sintered material capable of forming an inexpensive tool as typified by a cutting tool, which has excellent heat resistance, wear resistance and chipping resistance and has long service life, and to provide its production method.

The cermet based sintered material consists of a sintered compact obtained by preparing a powdery mixture containing each powder of TiCN, Si3N4, Al2O3, CrXN (x=1 to 2.7) and ZrN, containing the powder of either W or WC, and containing the powder of at least one kind of metal selected from Co, Ni, Ta and Mo, and then sintering the powdery mixture.
