PURPOSE: To facilitate the character selection and thus to shorten the selection time for the device which converts the first character such as the kana letter (japanese syllabary) into the corresponding Chinese character or the like, by selecting the character via the general word using frequency and the homophonous word using frequency when the Chinese character is delivered among the homophonous Chinese characters.
CONSTITUTION: In the coversion device which vonverts the first character such as the kana letter or the like into the corresponding second character like the Chinese or the like, the following keys are installed: key 13 to supply the first character to operation panel 12 of the conversion device; Chinese character keys 19-1 and 19-2; and field key 20. In addition, setting dial 21 and 22 are added to set the threshold levels for the general word using frequency and the homophone using frequency of the Chinese character, along with mode change-over switch 30. When the Chinese character corresponding to the supplied first character is selected, the threshold levels are set previously through dial 21 and 22 for the general word using frequency and the homophone using frequency of the characters. Based on these using frequencies, the range of selection is decided via switch 30, thus selecting the Chinese characters through display at indicator 27.
