Abstract:
NEW MATERIAL:The chlorodinitrobenzene derivative of formula I (R is cyano or lower alkoxycarbonyl).
EXAMPLE: 2,4-Dinitro-5-chlorophenoxyacetonitrile.
USE: Useful as an intermediate especially for agricultural chemicals.
PREPARATION: The objective compound of formula I can be produced by reacting 1,5-dichloro-2,4-dinitrobenzene with an alcohol of formula II in the presence of a basic catalyst in a solvent (e.g. toluene) at -50W+200°C, preferably -20W+150°C. The amount of the compound of formula II is preferably 1W3 equivalent, especially 1W2 equivalent based on 1 equivalent of 1,5- dichloro-2,4-dinitrobenzene.
