To provide a circular polarizing plate which obtains circularly-polarized light in a wide band and can be formed to be a thin layer.
The circular polarizing plate has a polarizer and a retardation plate comprising a monolayer film obtained by orienting a birefringent chain polymer having a structure represented by formula (V) as a repeating unit (A), wherein the Re(550) of the retardation plate is 120-160 nm, and the retardation plate and the polarizer are laminated so that a lagging axis of the retardation plate and an absorption axis of the polarizer make an angle of 45±3°. In the formula (V), R3 denotes H or alkyl group; R4 and R8 each independently denote H, alkyl group, alkoxy group, thioalkoxy group, halogen, nitro group, amino group, hydroxyl group or thiol group (but R4 and R8 are not simultaneously H); and R5-R7 each independently denote H or a substituent.
