PURPOSE: To prevent dusts from being caught by a focusing lens thereby to establish the satisfactory focused condition by providing a movable carriage for supporting a cleaning member to be brought into contact with the image side or incident side of the focusing lens.
CONSTITUTION: There are provided both a cleaning member 22, which is brought into contact with the image side end of the focusing lens 7 of an automatic focusing device 6 in an optical information recording and reproducing apparatus made capable of recording and reproducing the video or audio information in a helical or circular shape upon a recording disc 10 with the use of optical means, and a movable carriage 21 for supporting that member 22. In response to the recording and reproducing operations, the movable carriage 21 is moved to separate the member 22 from the end face of the lens 7.
