PURPOSE: To reduce the generation of dead fold and flaws of a tape, by substituting at least one of titanium dioxide coated by tin dioxide, chrome sesquioxide and aluminum sesquioxide for ≥10wt% of a white pigment.
CONSTITUTION: In general, 20pts.wt. Al2O3 of 0.5μ grain size, 80pts.wt. vinyl chloride-vinyl acetate copolymer, 20pts.wt. thermoplastic polyurethane resin and 800pts.wt. methyl ethyl ketone are mixed in a ball mill for 20hr to obtain a coating material 2. This material 2 is applied to a thickness of 5μ on the one side of a transparent polyester base 1 of 30μ thickness. When the material 2 is dried up, the base 1 is cut into a leader tape 3 having 3.17mm width and 30cm length. This tape 3 is connected via an adhesive film 7 to the end of a magnetic recording tape 6 of 3.17mm width obtained by forming a magnetic layer 5 on a nonmagnatic supporter 4. A part of 20pts.wt. Al2O3 of the material 2 is substituted with TiO2 of 0.5μ grain size which is coated by SnO2. This can reduce greatly the surface electric resistance.
