To provide a cleaning unit which is compact as a whole, saves space, and cuts costs by coping with both image flow and toner fusion by the use of a single cleaning member disposed in the cleaner, and to provide an image forming apparatus.

In the cleaning unit having a slide friction roller, a cleaning blade, and a housing, a predetermined amount of lubricant, preferably, a lubricant of 0.5 to 5.2 g/cm2 per unit area of the slide friction surface of the photoreceptor, is applied and spread over the surface of the slide friction roller. This roller does not require another supply of the lubricant.
