PURPOSE: To provide a backing plate for a clutch disc capable of preventing grabbing by penetrating radially the backing plate in the outside of inner edge and circumferentially in the middle of outer edge of a friction material and fixing it at least with one central fixing piece to the clutch disc body.

CONSTITUTION: A backing plate 20 attached with a pair of pads 22, 24 made of a friction material is connected to a clutch disc 48 by edge rivets 26, an outer rivet 28 radially outside in the center and central rivet 29 in the radial direction. The backing plate 20 is surely fixed to the clutch disc 48 and made not to separate from the clutch disc 48. Individual clearances 36, 37, 39 form a groove such that the central part of friction material is cooled surely and adequately. A well known ceramic is suitable for pads 22, 24 and adhered to the backing plate 20 using a publicly known method. Particularly when clutch facing using this friction material is applied to a heavily loaded truck, the generation of grabbing in engagement and jerky motion of vehicles can be prevented.
