To provide both a coating apparatus which is improved so as to maintain a coating medium applied to a material web in the vicinity of the surface of the material web and so as to avoid the defect of the peeling off of the coating medium in coating, consequently is capable of being simplified in the structure and a method for coating corresponding to the apparatus.
In this coating apparatus, the apparatus has a roller 18 for guiding a material web 12 along a part in the peripheral direction in a winding and hanging zone, a coating mechanism 20 for coating the surface of the material web 12 or the surface of the roller 18 with a liquid or pasty medium and at least one straining belt 14 for supporting the material web 12 arranged between the coating mechanism 20 and the material web. A coating medium 24 is brought into contact with the material web 12 in the winding and hanging zone U of the roller 18. In this method for coating, the coating medium 24 is delivered from a moving endless air-permeable transporting belt to the material web 12.
