Abstract:
PURPOSE: To obtain a coating composition giving a dense coating film excellent in heat, wearing and corrosion resistance and free from cracks by incorporating a specific adduct of a polysilazane with an alcohol as an essential ingredient.
CONSTITUTION: A polysilazane having a backbone made up mainly of units represented by formula I (wherein R1, R2, and R3 each is H, an alkyl, alkenyl, cycloalkyl, aryl, alkylsilyl, alkylamine, alkoxy, etc., provided that at least one of R1 to R3 is H) and having a number-average mol.wt. of 100-50,000 (e.g. formula II) is reacted with an alcohol (e.g. n-hexyl alcohol) in an alcohol to polysilazane ratio of 0.001-2 by weight to produce a polysilazane/alcohol adduct having a number-average mol.wt. of about 100-500,000. This adduct is used as an essential ingredient to produce the coating composition.
