PURPOSE: To provide a uniform coating material layer, by a method wherein a wire rod to which an excess of a coating material is spplied is passed through a die provided with a through-hole having a polygonal cross-sectional shape.
CONSTITUTION: The drawing die 6 is provided with the through-hole 63 having a tetragonal, hexagonal, octagonal or other polygonal cross-sectional shape, wherein the diameter of the inscribed circle 61 for the shape is slightly larger than the outside diameter of the wire rod 1, and each corner part 64 is slightly curved so as to prevent concentration of stress. At a coating material applying part 5, an excess of a coating material 54 is applied to the wire rod 1 by a device comprising a spray nozzle 53 or the like. Then, the wire rod 1 is led to a tapered part 61a of the coating material drawing die 6, and is passed through the through-hole 63 on the downstream side of the tapered part 61a, whereby surplus coating material 54 is removed. In this case, the coating material is adhered to the wire rod 1 in a shape corresponding to the cross-sectional shape of the through-hole, and a coating material layer having uniform thickness is provided under the surface tension of the coating material.
