To provide a colloid crystal, which comprises colloid particles different from conventional polystyrene particles, silica particles, and the like, in refractive index and can meet a wide variety of application requirements, and a process for producing the same.
Template particles having particle diameters of 0.01 μm to 10 μm are dispersed in a first dispersant to stack a shell formed of a substance different from template particles around the template particles to prepare core/shell-type colloid particles. Next, the colloid particles are dispersed in a second dispersant which has been adjusted to a pH value in the range of 4 to 10 so that the absolute value of the surface charge is brought to not less than 15 mV in terms of a zeta potential, thereby regularly arranging the colloid particles. Before the regular arrangement, the template particles may be removed from the colloid particles to prepare hollow colloid particles.
