To obtain a high-quality color filter which is reduced in cost and has black matrix patterns of a uniform thickness by forming multicolor patterns on a collector device, solidifying these patterns, removing the multicolor patterns and forming the color filter constituting material.

A transfer layer 14 is applied on a collector roll 16 and is formed. A patterned intaglio printing roller is brought into contact therewith, there by, the relief type black matrix patterns 10 are formed onto the transfer layer 14. The red, green and blue color cells 36 of the color filter patterns are applied onto the transfer layer 14 existing in the recessed parts formed by the relief type patterns 10 and are solidified and cured. The composite consisting of the transfer layer 14, the relief type patterns 10 and the red, green and blue color cells 36 is transferred to the glass substrate 12 by using adhesives 19. The adhesive 19 are of a UV-curing type and are cured by using UV light 34d.
