To obtain a color filter in which an electric field can be effectively and stably applied into a liquid crystal by specifying the specific inductive capacity of color films, and to provide a liquid crystal display device having the filter.
This color filter has pixels consisting of color films 3 of desired colors formed into a desired pattern for each color. Color films 3 are formed on a transparent substrate and a light-shielding region 2 is formed between pixels. The color film 3 has a function to transmit light of a desired color and its specific conductive capacity is controlled to ≤4.5, preferably ≤3.6. The specific conductive capacity is measured at 20°C for 100Hz to 100kHz frequency. The color film 3 is a polyimide or acryl film having dispersion of a pigment or dye, a dyed polyvinylalcohol film, a SiO2 film with controlled film thickness to transmit only desired light, etc., and a polymide film with dispersion of a pigment is preferable.
