Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To realize the higher efficiency of light utilization simultaneously with maintaining of high resolution of light valves in performing color display with a single plate type image display device and single plate type projection type image display device.
SOLUTION: The device for making color display by introducing the respective color light rays of red, green and blue from a light source so as to illuminate the respective light valves to a belt form by each of the respective color light rays and continuously moving the belt-like illumination to drive the light valves in compliance with the color signals adapted to the illumination areas of the respective color light rays is so constituted that the color light rays from the light source are introduced to a rotary polyhedral mirror with a condenser optical system by each of the respective color light rays, scanning is carried out by the rotary polyhedral mirror and the light valves are subjected to optimized illumination by the scanning optical system.
