PURPOSE: To prevent contamination in the stage after a 1st developing stage by rotating a developing roll in the stage of the 1st developing stage in the direction opposite to that of a photosensitive drum so that development is performed.
CONSTITUTION: The photosensitive drum 1 rotates in the direction of an arrow. First of all, a photosensitive layer of the surface of the drum 1 is uniformly charged by the 1st electrostatic charger 2. Secondly, a 1st exposure light means 3 performs photoirradiation according to image information corresponding to a 1st color and an electrostatic latent image corresponding to the 1st color is performed on the photosensitive layer. Then, on this photosensitive layer, a toner corresponding to the 1st color is supplied and developed by the 1 developing means 4. In this case, the developing roll 4a is rotated in the direction opposite to the moving direction of the drum 1 so as to develop. Thus a toner cloud generated in the means 4 hardly flows in the direction of the 2 developing means 7 and the contamination with the toner cloud is prevented.
