Abstract:
PURPOSE:To obtain the liquid crystal display device which can be changed over to a reflection type and a transmission type with high efficiency at a low cost by simplifying light absorption. CONSTITUTION:This display device is constituted of a display part 1 which is constituted of a polymer dispersion type liquid crystal 2 constituted between a pair of substrates 17 and 17', color filters 3 provided on the display surface side thereof and electrodes 4, 5 corresponding to respective picture elements, an attachable and detachable absorption plate 6 which absorbs light, and a light source 7. The device is used by putting this light source 7 into a non- lighting state and inserting the absorption plate 6 at the time of using the device as a reflection mode. The device is used by putting the light source 7 into a lighting state and removing the absorption plate 6 at the time of using the device as a transmission mode. The device is preferably so constituted as to automatically light the light source by taking out the absorption plate 6 and to automatically put out the light source by reinserting the absorption plate 6.
