PURPOSE: To provide a color resist for a black matrix by which a black matrix is easily formed in a short process and capable of realizing a picture excellent in contrast.

CONSTITUTION: This color resist for a black matrix consists of ≥2 kinds of pigments of the colored paste selected from the blue, purple, yellow and red pigments transmitting the light in the UV region and absorbing the light in the visible region, the average grain diameter of the pigments is controlled to 150-500nm, the maximum transmittance in the UV region to ≥1% and the maximum transmittance in the visible region to ≤5%. A black matrix is formed by this color resist in the same way as the transparent colored pattern, the number of stages is reduced, and a color filter capable of realizing a picture excellent in color tone and contrast is provided.
