To provide a communication area formation device capable of forming a desired communication area regardless of an antenna mounting direction.
A first transmission antenna 24 has two bar antennas 41 and 42 which are orthogonal to each other and are driven simultaneously. Individually setting values of drive currents Ix and Iy supplied to both bar antennas 41 and 42 makes it possible to arbitrarily control magnetic distribution, which is a direction and magnitude of directivity of a synthetic magnetic field Hxy synthesized from a magnetic field Hx by one bar antenna 41 and a magnetic field Hy by the other bar antenna 42, in a communication area 51. Thereby, a desired communication area 51 can be formed regardless of a mounting direction of the first transmission antenna 24. Second and third transmission antennas 25 and 26 are similar to the first transmission antenna 24.
