To completely saturate the subject feed raw material with an unsaturated compound under mild conditions by bringing the feed raw material into contact with a saturating catalyst in the first reactor, mostly saturating the unsaturated raw material with the unsaturated compound, returning a part of an effulent to the first reactor and saturating the feed raw material with the residual unsaturated compound in the second reactor.
A feed raw material 12 containing an unsaturated halogenated hydrocarbon is brought into contact with hydrogen 16 and a saturating catalyst under saturating conditions in the first reactor 14 to reduce the content of the unsaturated halogenated hydrocarbon in the feed raw material. An effluent 20 from the first reactor 14 is condensed in a heat exchanger 22 and then separated in a high-pressure vapor-liquid separator 24. A part of the liquid portion is returned through a recycling loop 18 to the first reactor 14 and a vapor part 26, together with the residual liquid part 30, is passed through an absorbent vessel 32 and brought into contact with a halogenated hydrocarbon solvent to remove the vapor part 36 from an overhead. A flow 38 from the bottom of the absorbent vessel 32 is passed through a plug flow-type reactor 40 of the second reactor and brought into contact with a saturating catalyst under saturating conditions to thereby completely saturate the feed raw material containing the unsaturated halogenated hydrocarbon with the unsaturated compound contained therein.
