Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a composite material having excellent high-temp. strength, wear resistance and lubricity in the case of being applied to for example a plug for piercing rolling seamless steel tubes by applying it with a welding layer composed of a metallic base material and Nb or an Nb alloy directly applied on the surface of the metallic base material and melted into the surface.
SOLUTION: A plug 2 has a welding layer 2b composed of Nb or an Nb alloy provided on the surface of the main body 2a of the plug, and the welding layer 2b is applied in a state of being melted into the whole surface other than the back edge face of the main body 2a of the plug. As to the welding layer 2b, the one composed of plural layers, and in which the content of allay elements in the lowermost layer is smaller than that in the uppermost layer is preferable from the point of preventing the cracking of the lowermost layer. Preferably, the contents of oxygen, hydrogen and nitrogen included as impurities in the welding layer 2b are respectively regulated to ≤5000 ppm, ≤500 ppm and ≤500 ppm from the point of preventing cracking therein. The welding layer 2b is applied in such a manner that the main body 2a of the plug is directly subjected to build-up welding of a welding material by a plasma powder build-up welding method having a high arc temp.
