In this composite IC card having the contact interface and the non-contact interface, it is detected to which of the contact interface and the non-contact interface a signal has been input, and if the signal is detected, it is determined whether a communication carried out via either of the interfaces is just started or data transmission is already carried out in the communication. When the communication is just started, it is determined whether the interface inputting the signal corresponds to an interface at a high priority order level or not. When it is determined that the data transmission is already carried out or when the interface inputting the signal is different from the interface at the high priority level, communication via the already established interface is maintained. A switch to the interface at the high priority level is carried out when it is determined that the interface inputting the signal corresponds to the interface at the high priority level.
