PURPOSE: To improve the cooling effect of molten steel and the efficiency of an electromagnetic rabbling device by using the former of the superposed plates consisting of a high heat conductivity metal plate and a low electric conductivity metal plate as a molten steel contact surface and allowing the latter to contact by interposing the filling pieces of the same quality.
CONSTITUTION: For example, a copper plate 1 and a stainless steel 2 are clad by explosive cladding to make pressure-welded superposed plates. Next, the end edges thereof are machined to halving joints. These are aggregated to constitute the 4 peripheral walls of a mold. First, the copper plates 1 of the inner layer are brought into contact obliquely with each other and the contact excess metal parts are shaped off at the outside end of the joint lines to form a plane again. Next, filling pieces 3 of a square shape are filled therein and the adhesive surfaces thereof are tightly adhered and melt stuck, whereby a tube blank material is made. Thence, slits for cooling water grooves 4 are machined in parallel to the steel plates 2 and the inside and outside surfaces are worked to a required shape, whereby the mold is finished.
