To provide a composition for color filter which is excellent in application property and smoothness and has outstanding characteristics.
As the composition for color filter containing a color material, a binder, a polymerizable monomer, a solvent and a surfactant, a combination of the solvent and the surfactant to make the solvent have a surface tension of 75% or less resulting from addition of 2,500 ppm surfactant to the solvent is selected.
