PURPOSE: A composition for the oral cavity, prepared by incorporating a composition for the oral cavity containing a sweetening agent selected from a natural sweetening agent having a saccharide residue and a sweetening agent having a peptide ester with methyl p-hydroxybenzoate, having improved antimicrobial activity, and usable for toothpaste, etc.
CONSTITUTION: A composition for the oral cavity, prepared by incorporating a composition for the oral cavity containing at least one or more sweetening agents selected from a natural sweetening agent having a saccharide residue, e.g. stevioside, and a sweetening agent having a peptide ester, e.g. thaumatin, with preferably 0.01W2wt%, particularly 0.05W1wt%, based on the total composition, methyl p-hydroxybenzoate, and having improved antimicrobial activity. The methyl p-hydroxybenzoate has the antimicrobial activity inferior to that of other p-hydroxybenzoic esters, but acts specifically on germs when incorporated with the composition for the oral cavity containing above-mentioned sweetening agents, and exhibits a higher antiseptic activity than that of the other p-hydroxybenzoic esters.
