PURPOSE: To permit easy starting of an installation and to avert the undesirable situation that arises when operating conditions are unknown by forming a separator of a device, which separates the fine reduced iron powder produced in the stage after compression molding of reduced iron particles with the separator and circulates the powder to mold the same again, in such a way that the separating function can be stopped.
CONSTITUTION: A damper 21 is provided to a fine powder separator 10 so that the separator can be operated by the opening and closing of said damper to perform or not to perform sepn. Reduced iron particles 1 are compression-molded at hot by paired rolls 6 for molding to a continuous lumped material 7. The lumped material 7 is divided by a dividing machine 8 to be made to single lumped material 9. Fine powder is generated in the stage of such molding and division and therefore the powder is separated from the material 9 by the separator 10 and is recirculated to a hopper 2. The device is operated in the above-mentioned way in the stationary state. The gap between the rolls 6 is increased to protect a screw feeder 4 in the startup of the device and therefore a large amt. of the pulverous powder passes the separator 10 and causes trouble such as clogging with the fine powder and overflow. The damper 21 is thereupon closed until the stationary state is attained.
