PURPOSE: To transfer data by equipping a digital computer system with an interface for data transfer between devices that do not match each other.
CONSTITUTION: The digital computer system is equipped with a processor 6, a memory and an interconnection data bus 16, which are all constituted so as to handle data units of 1st data width. Further, an input/output device 18 which is constituted so as to handle data units of 2nd data width is connected to the data bus. The width of data to be transferred is matched to the data width of a receiving device, i.e. the bus to enable data transfer between devices having different data widths. To control the data width, a control means is provided which change paths for transferring data bytes according to the data widths of plural receiving and sending devices, and a transfer direction is provided.
