Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To well carry out the thermal sterilizing treatment of fungi present on the surfaces of rice grains without deteriorating the rice grains by heating.
SOLUTION: Pressurized steam is introduced from one end 21 of a treating pipe 2 and discharged from the other end 22 of the pipe 2 and the discharging pressure of the steam from the other end 22 is regulated to thereby form a pressurized stream current in the treating pipe 2 while keeping the interior of the treating pipe 2 in a prescribed pressurized state. A prescribed unit amount of rice grains is then introduced into the treating pipe 2, borne on the pressurized steam current and passed through the treating pipe 2 to thereby bring the rice grains into contact with the pressurized steam at a temperature exceeding 100°C while well fluidizing the rice grains in the treating pipe 2 to perform the thermal sterilization.
