To provide a control device of an internal combustion engine which can properly control an EGR gas quantity even when an operation state of the internal combustion engine changes.
The control device includes a first exhaust gas recirculating means and a second exhaust gas recirculating means, and when revealing that an absolute value of a deviation in a first recirculating gas quantity to a target quantity of a first recirculating gas quantity is larger than a predetermined threshold value deviation, compensation for the deviation by a second recirculating gas quantity is started, and when revealing that the absolute value of the deviation is the threshold value deviation or less in a period of making the compensation by the second recirculating gas quantity, the compensation by the second recirculating gas quantity is finished. A recirculating gas quantity control means determines a transition pattern of expressing a transition of the second recirculating gas quantity on and after compensation finishing time being time when finishing the compensation by the second recirculating gas quantity based on a first response time length-related parameter related to the response time length of the first recirculating gas quantity, and changes the second recirculating gas quantity on and after the compensation finishing time according to the transition pattern.
