To provide a control unit of multi-cylinder internal combustion engine capable of calculating accurately cylinder air-charge volumes to each cylinder or variations in cylinder air-charge volumes between the cylinders while considering an air intake pulsing.
A control unit of multi-cylinder internal combustion engine controls an intake valve in such a manner that a time needed to open and close the intake valve is to be a target time needed to open and close the valve. The control unit estimates variations in cylinder air charge volumes between the cylinders, estimates cylinder air-charge volumes from a target time needed to open and close the valve, when estimated variations in cylinder air-charge volumes between the cylinders is not greater than a predetermined level, estimates cylinder air-charge volumes to each cylinder from estimated time needed to open and close the valve that is estimated from at least one engine operation parameters detected by an operation parameter detection means, when estimated variations in cylinder air-charge volumes between the cylinders is greater than the predetermined level, and controls a multi-cylinder internal combustion engine from estimated cylinder air-charge volumes to each cylinder.
