To suppress the consumption of high octane value gasoline in a multi-fuel internal combustion engines.
A fuel injection valve 110H to inject high octane value gasoline and a fuel injection valve 110L to inject low octane value gasoline are installed in each cylinder of an engine 100 to supply high octane value gasoline and low octane value gasoline into the engine at the feed rate determined corresponding to the engine operation condition. An electronic control unit (ECU) 30 selects a basic ignition timing of the engine corresponding to the feed ratio, and retards the ignition timing from the basic ignition timing in order to suppress the knocking where necessary, or for the other purpose (for example, a catalyst warming up). When the ECU retards the ignition timing for the purpose other than the purpose to suppress the knocking, the low octane value gasoline supply ratio is increased corresponding to the retardation angle. Thereby, the consumption of the high octane value gasoline can be suppressed by increasing the consumption of the low octane value, preventing the knocking.
