To stably realize an emission reduction and a fuel economy improvement by using two types of exhaust refluxes, or internal EGR and external EGR appropriately in an internal combustion engine.
The internal combustion engine has a VVT mechanism capable of adjusting an overlap period when an intake valve and an exhaust valve are both open. A reflux mechanism is also provided to reflux exhaust to an intake side. An EGR map is prepared, wherein an internal EGR quantity using the VVT mechanism and an external EGR quantity using the reflux mechanism are given with engine speed and torque. The EGR map is a four-dimensional map considering an intake air temperature and a cooling water temperature in the engine as well. EGR control can be executed in consideration of the parameters to suppress knocking during the EGR control and stably realize a fuel economy improvement and the like.
