Abstract:
To realize an improvement of fuel economy by suppressing extraneous fuel consumption while satisfying an acceleration response required by a driver during a series travel.SOLUTION: A control method is applied to a series hybrid vehicle that includes an engine 1, a motor-generator 2, a drive motor 3 and a battery 8, and switches between an engine-stop mode and an engine power-generating mode during a series travel. The method includes: obtaining vehicle-itself positional information and travel estimation information that estimates a travel mode ahead of the present position of the vehicle itself during a travel with the engine-stop mode; predicting required drive power required for the vehicle itself to travel from the present position along a travel-plan road on the basis of the vehicle-itself positional information and travel estimation information; and switching from the engine-stop mode to the engine power-generating mode in which to start the engine 1 for generating power with the motor-generator 2 in a case where the required drive power is predicted to be higher than a threshold, or maintaining the engine-stop mode in a case where the required drive power is predicted to be lower than the threshold.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 6
