To provide a KANA (Japanese syllabary)/KANJI (Chinese character) conversion device having high conversion efficiency in spite of having a compact system constitution.
The KANA/KANJI conversion device has a specific learning word area 46 to be displayed as a KANA/KANJI conversion candidate area of top priority without differentiating a single KANJI, a phrase or the like in addition to normal learning dictionaries 44, 45. When the conversion candidate stored in the area 46 is used, an unused counter is cleared and maintained, but when the candidate is not used, the count value of the unused counter is increased, and when the count value exceeds a counter limit value, the candidate is moved to a phrase learning area 44 or a single KANJI learning area 45 of which display priority is low. Consequently converted candidates having stepwise priority can be displayed.
