Abstract:
PURPOSE: To obtain the subject new polymer composed of a specific arylate component, polyester component and hydroxycarboxylic acid component, low in gas generation when used at high temperature and excellent in heat resistance and all aspects of mechanical properties.
CONSTITUTION: This polymer is composed of 40-95mol.% of a unit of formula I (Ar1 is 1,3-phenylene, 4,4'-biphenylene, etc.; Ar2 is 1,3-phenylene, 2,6-naphthalene, etc.), 1-40mol.% of a unit of formula II (Ar3=Ar1; l=2-200; n=2-6) and 0.1-20mol.% of a unit of formula III (Ar4 is at least 2 groups selected from 1,4-phenylene or 2,6-naphthalene, 4,4-biphenylene, etc.) based on the total constituent units, and exhibits optical anisotropy when molten. The dicarboxylic acid forming the unit I is e.g. 2,6-naphthalenedicarboxylic acid, the diol forming the unit I is e.g. 4,4'-dihydroxybiphenyl and the polyester forming the unit II is e.g. polyethylene terephthalate.
