PURPOSE: To perform status detection at high accuracy by removing a signal component synchronized to the rotational period of the roll from a roll reaction measurement signal measured by a load cell.
CONSTITUTION: The rotational period (T=πD/V) is calculated in a period calculating circuit 3 from a speed signal V from a speed meter 1 and known diameter D of the roll and inputted to a detection circuit 5 for period coincidence. A part of the signal from a load cell 2 is frequency analyzed in a frequency analyzing circuit 4 and inputted to the detection circuit 5 for period coincidence signal. The circuit 5 takes out a signal of period T out of signals of various frequency sent from a frequenct analyzing circuit 4 and inputs to a subtraction circuit 6. Signals sent from the load cell 2 are inputted in the subtraction circuit 6, and a signal component of period T is subtracted from the signal of the load cell 2. Thus, the output signal of the subtraction circuit 6 is made free from influences of bending of the roll and becomes a signal corresponding to the change of thickness and surface from of the ingot.
