PURPOSE: To obtain a stainless steel clad having superior pitting corrosion resistance in a highly corrosive environment by placing stainless steel plates opposite to each other and holding a metal having nobler natural electrode potential than the stainless steel and superior corrosion resistance between the stainless steel plates.
CONSTITUTION: Plates 01, 01 of a ferritic stainless steel, an austenitic stainless steel or a ferritic-austenitic two-phase stainless steel having 3mm thickness are placed opposite to each other, and a plate 02 of a metal having nobler natural electrode potential than the stainless steel and superior pitting corrosion resistance, e.g., an Ni alloy such as 'Hastelloy C(R)', 'Inconel 625(R)' or 'Incolloy 825(R)', Ti or Zr is held between the plates 01, 01 with thin Ni plates 03, 03 having 0.05mm thickness in-between. The thickness of the plate 02 is 0.5mm. They are then hot rolled to obtain a stainless steel clad having superior resistance to pitting corrosion by seawater, halogen ions, etc.
